Mississippi drops charges in killing of former state lawmaker but says new charges are possible
SUMMARY: In Jackson, Mississippi, charges of murder and arson against Billy Lamar Brooks in connection to the shooting death of former state Rep. Ashley Henley and the earlier burning of a building have been dropped. Prosecutors require more time for investigation but may reintroduce charges in the future. Henley, who had been investigating the death of her sister-in-law, Kristina Michelle Jones, at the burnt mobile home site, was killed in June 2021. Brooks had been indicted for the arson in February 2022 and murder in June, but has been out on bond. Henley served as a state lawmaker from 2016 to 2020 and lost reelection in 2019.

Two killed in crash involving bus carrying Mississippi Gulf Coast CC band
SUMMARY: A tragic crash on Highway 98 in Pike County, Mississippi, resulted in the deaths of two individuals in a Ford Ranger truck, which collided with a bus carrying members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Band of Gold. The incident occurred on September 19 as the band was heading to a football game against South Mississippi Community College. Fortunately, none of the students on the bus were injured. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Jackson police arrest 2 teens for shooting death of 17-year-old
SUMMARY: Jackson police arrested two 16-year-olds, Jesse Watts III and Jordan Wilson, charged with capital murder following the shooting death of 17-year-old Jaden Morgan. Calhoun City votes to allow sale of alcohol
