Mississippi deploying more resources to North Carolina as Helene recovery continues
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves announced that Mississippi is sending additional resources to North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage and flooding. This week, 22 Mississippi Highway Patrol officers and 25 from the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will assist with search and rescue and traffic control efforts. Helene caused over 250 deaths, with a significant number in North Carolina, and many people remain missing. Mississippi has previously deployed National Guard members, rescue and engineering teams, helicopters, and generators to assist various states affected by the hurricanes, alongside local utility efforts and community fundraisers for relief.

SUMMARY: As the baseball season approaches, the Mississippi Mud Monsters, the state’s only Frontier League team, is preparing for its inaugural season. They have appointed a general manager and field manager and signed three players, including former Mississippi State outfielder Brayland Skinner, who had a .298 batting average last season. DeSoto Central graduate Kyle Booker, who played for Tennessee and Oral Roberts, also joins, boasting a .317 average at the college level. Ryan Cash, a Frontier League veteran with a recent .350 average, completes the trio. The Mud Monsters will debut at Trustmark Park on May 8.
