Mississippi Department of Marine Resources using funds to repair Gulfport drainage pipe, turning…
SUMMARY: A new pier is under construction along Highway 90 in Gulfport, aimed at transforming a 30-foot outfall into a public amenity. This project, initiated by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, is located across from Centennial Plaza where Coffee Creek meets the Mississippi Sound. The pier and pavilion will provide beachgoers, including those with disabilities, enhanced access. Initially expected to be finished sooner, completion has been delayed until March 2025 due to parts shortages. The overall cost is approximately $2.6 million, funded by the Gesa fund from offshore oil and gas leases, with plans to upgrade additional beach outfalls in the future.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources tells WLOX the project started as an effort to repair a 30-foot outfall that was caving in.

Community to choose between two potential locations for new Biloxi Upper Elementary School
SUMMARY: Buxy Upper Elementary School, originally built in 1961 and serving various educational levels, is being considered for a new purpose as the community evaluates a new location for elementary students. Superintendent Buo emphasized the need for a modern facility, stating the current building, designed for high school students, is unsuitable for younger grades. Two potential sites are being considered: next to the existing school and the former Michelle Junior High property on Popsy Road. Community sentiment leans toward the latter option. Buo assured that the historic current building would remain standing for district and community needs. Final site decisions will be made by December 4th.
A public forum will be held Dec. 4th at 5 p.m. in the Biloxi Schools Performing Arts Center.
