Mississippi Democrats call for boycott of state fair over Trump rally; Ag commissioner deems it ‘ridiculous’
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Democratic Party is urging a boycott of the annual state fair after Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson hosted a rally supporting Donald Trump, who was recently convicted on 34 counts in New York. The rally took place at the Mississippi Agriculture Museum, involving GOP leaders, prompting criticism from Democratic Party Chair Cheikh Taylor for backing a convicted felon. The boycott aims to impact the fair financially as a protest against the leaders’ actions. Despite generating significant economic impact for Jackson, Gipson dismissed the boycott and called Trump’s charges “ridiculous,” inviting residents to attend the fair from October 3-13.
