Mississippi county to deport undocumented inmates

SUMMARY: More than a dozen inmates in Doto County are set to be deported due to their illegal entry into the U.S., according to District Attorney Matthew Barton. His office has formed a partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to expedite this . Barton emphasized that the responsibility for handling the deportation lies with ICE and the respective countries, not his office. Currently, one inmate is in ICE custody, with thirteen more for transfer. Charges against these inmates range from drug possession to serious offenses like attempted murder and sexual abuse, prompting the DA’s desire to them from the community.

DeSoto County is set to deport more than a dozen inmates as part of a new partnership between the county’s District Attorney’s office and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
