Mississippi civil rights leader Hollis Watkins dies
SUMMARY: Hollis Watkins, a veteran of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, has passed away at the age of 79. He was one of the first young Mississippians to dedicate himself to full-time work with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Watkins co-founded Southern Echo, a community organization focused on the welfare of African American communities in Mississippi. He received several awards for his humanitarian work.
