Once forefront of Mississippi’s hospital crisis, Greenwood Leflore ‘on track to break even’
SUMMARY: Greenwood Leflore Hospital (GLH), one of the largest in the Mississippi Delta, seems set to break even for fiscal year 2024, according to Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams. This turnaround comes after the hospital nearly closed and faced severe financial issues. A plan that reimburses hospitals at Medicare's upper limit, delivering $10 million annually, has bolstered GLH's finances. Though some services were previously cut, they have now reopened critical units. Approval for critical access status by the federal government could further stabilize GLH. Despite this progress, the broader hospital crisis in Mississippi remains serious, with many rural hospitals still at risk.
