SUMMARY: Thaddieus Cooper and his sister Arista Garner were arrested in Mississippi for an unemployment benefits scam. State Auditor Shad White announced their capture for conspiring to defraud the state. Cooper allegedly had Garner submit an unemployment application on his behalf while he was incarcerated. He received benefits through a debit card, which Garner used for personal expenses. Both face up to five years in prison and $1,000 in fines if convicted. This arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat unemployment fraud in the state, as emphasized by White’s remarks on the investigation team’s dedication.
