Mississippi awarded $1.2B to expand internet access in underserved parts of state
SUMMARY: Mississippi has been granted over $1.2 billion in federal funding to expand high-speed internet access. The Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) will administer the funding through a competitive grant process. The goal is to reach 300,000 unserved and 200,000 underserved locations without access to high-speed broadband. Governor Tate Reeves emphasized the importance of broadband infrastructure for economic opportunities and connectivity. The funding is part of the national Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, which prioritizes areas with no or limited internet access. BEAM will submit a five-year action plan to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for approval.

Southern Miss head coach Jay Ladner decries new recruiting landscape, pleads with fans to buy in
SUMMARY: Jay Ladner enters his seventh year as Southern Miss men’s basketball coach amid significant challenges, including staff changes, a roster overhaul, and financial limitations. After a successful 2022-23 season, Ladner faces pressure to improve following a tough 2024-25 campaign. The program struggles with NIL budget disparities compared to more affluent schools. Ladner acknowledges the difficulty of building a competitive roster in the current college sports environment but remains focused on overcoming these obstacles. With key assistants leaving, Ladner hopes a new hire will help attract top talent and boost the team’s chances for success in the 2025-26 season.
