Mississippi Aquarium to unveil $4 million expansion next week
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Aquarium is getting ready to reveal $4 million worth of renovations to its Changing Tides building. The expansion adds over 7,000 square feet of space and includes 23 new habitats designed to replicate a Kelp Forest, Tropical Jungle, and Warm Water Oceans. The renovated area will feature a two-toed sloth, a three-banded armadillo, a giant Pacific octopus, and over 130 different species such as sea horses, tarantulas, snakes, lizards, hissing cockroaches, and poison dart frogs. The aquarium is also planning to build more habitats for future animal encounter events. Additionally, the aquarium is offering a free annual pass for children between the ages of three and five, as well as discounted annual passes for adults, youth, seniors, and military personnel.

Mississippi College president weighs in on incoming bicentennial, decision to change school’s name

Additionally, the university will discontinue its football program, focusing resources on areas of excellence for future growth.

SUMMARY: Bricen Rivers has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, vehicle theft, and tampering with evidence related to the death of his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Johansen, whose body was found in a car trunk in Mississippi. Rivers fled the scene before his capture during a manhunt. The murder is believed to have occurred in Forrest County, and the case was transferred there. Rivers had previously been imprisoned for beating and kidnapping Johansen but was out on bond due to an administrative mistake. Johansen’s father, Lance, is advocating for “Lauren’s Law” to prevent bond eligibility for violent offenders. Rivers’ trial is set for June 25, 2025.
