Mississippi AG’s Office opens probe of PAC supporting McDaniel
SUMMARY: The Attorney General’s Office in Mississippi is investigating an out-of-state PAC, “Invest in Mississippi PAC,” and its creator, Thomas Datwyler, for potential criminal violations. The PAC has received significant funds from dark money Super PACs, including American Jobs and Growth PAC and Defend U.S. PAC. “Dark money” refers to spending aimed at influencing political outcomes without disclosing the source of the money. The investigation was opened after a complaint was filed on August 3, 2023. State Senator Chris McDaniel, who is running for lieutenant governor, has received support from the PAC. Incumbent Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann is also running in the Republican primary.
