Milton forecast to bring life-threatening impacts to Florida
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Milton is forecasted to strengthen into a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, possibly reaching Category 3 or even Category 4 status as it approaches Florida. The storm, currently moving slowly, is expected to speed up and could make landfall along Florida’s west coast by Wednesday. This scenario poses significant risks for areas from the Big Bend to Fort Myers, particularly Tampa, which has not experienced such a storm in over a century. Changes in steering currents due to a cool front are influencing the storm’s path, resulting in uncertainty about its exact trajectory. Residents should prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Milton is forecast to become a major hurricane. It will move toward Florida with landfall Wednesday. Rain, wind and storm surge are expected.
