Military construction bill advances, paving way for T-7 training aircraft
SUMMARY: The U.S. Senate has approved a military construction bill that could result in over $50 million being allocated to construction projects at Columbus Air Force Base. The bill includes $83 million of federal funds for military construction projects in Mississippi, with a majority of the funding going towards infrastructure for the new T-7A training aircraft. The T-7A is set to replace the Air Force’s current T-38 trainers, with the transition expected to begin in 2027 or 2028. The bill will now move to a conference committee to reconcile the Senate and House versions.

Having enlisted in the Marines as a teenager, Brown fought in the Battle of Okinawa and was injured. During the celebration, it was announced that the U.S. military would replace his lost medals and awards due to a house fire decades prior. As the last living WWII veteran of the Andrew Lawhon Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Brown emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of previous generations and continuing to serve as engaged citizens.

SUMMARY: In Canton, Mississippi, the family of Booker T. Henry seeks answers following his shooting death early Sunday morning near LC Greenwood and Walnut Street. He was transported to Madison Merit Health but succumbed to his injuries. Henry’s mother described him as a good man who was visiting family for a gathering when he was killed just before leaving. The incident reportedly lacked surveillance footage. Later that day, Henry’s brother and another individual were shot in the leg nearby.
