Middle Tennessee experiences near-historic dry stretch
SUMMARY: Nashville has experienced 22 consecutive days without measurable rainfall in October, the longest dry spell since last October. Meteorologist Alex Libby notes this trend may extend to nearly 28 days, approaching historic levels last seen in 1923. The long-range weather forecast lacks promising rain prospects, raising concerns about worsening drought conditions in Middle Tennessee. Potential impacts include heightened grass and forest fire risks, low river and reservoir levels, water conservation needs in some cities, and negative effects on local fish and wildlife due to dwindling river levels. Overall, the outlook for rainfall remains bleak.

Concerns over traffic stops in Metro Nashville
SUMMARY: Metro councilman Jeff Eslick is urging residents to voice their concerns about speeding, claiming that police are not conducting enough traffic stops. He highlighted a 45% decline in traffic stops over the past five years alongside rising traffic fatalities, equating the roads to the “Wild Wild West.” While traffic deaths have decreased countywide since 2022, Eslick believes police enforcement is inadequate, stating that only traffic division officers make stops. Metro Police contested this, asserting that any officer can enforce traffic laws. Eslick continues to advocate for more rigorous enforcement, asking the public for examples of speeding issues.

Poll: Democrats and Republicans back school choice | Tennessee
SUMMARY: A recent poll by The Beacon Center shows that 58% of Tennessee Democrats and 56% of Republicans back candidates supporting school choice. However, 21% of Democrats and 14% of Republicans oppose it. State lawmakers did not pass a bill for an educational savings account program that aimed to provide 20,000 accounts at $7,075 annually, estimated to cost $100,000 in the first year and $300,000 afterward. A January poll indicated 68% support for this plan. School choice is seen as vital by many parents seeking better educational opportunities for their children, with ongoing pilot programs in Shelby, Davidson, and Hamilton counties offering $9,800.
