MHP’s Independence Day travel period to begin on Thursday

Authorities identify man who was killed after allegedly breaking into ex-girlfriend’s Petal home
SUMMARY: Authorities have identified Burnell Gould, 27, as the man shot and killed after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home in Petal. Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem confirmed the fatal incident occurred on West 10th Avenue when Gould was shot by another man inside the house after aggressively knocking and barging in. Gould was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. No arrests have been made yet, and social media users accuse the ex-girlfriend of setting Gould up. Police continue to investigate and will release more information as it becomes available.

Mississippi artists can win $2,000 prize, be featured in state’s largest art festival
SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

Mississippi earns Silver Shovel Award for recent economic development projects
