MHP starts Operation S.T.O.P. campaign

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Highway Patrol has launched its Operation Stop campaign to promote school travel safety. The campaign emphasizes the importance of taking extra precautions in school zones and around school buses. The goal is to protect students and ensure their safe transportation to and from school. Last year, there were 280 crashes involving school buses in Mississippi, resulting in 55 injuries and one death. This year, there have already been 268 crashes with 59 injuries reported. Nathan’s Law states that vehicles must stop 10 feet away from a school bus when loading or unloading children, and penalties for passing a stopped school bus have been increased.
