MHP responds to 7 fatal crashes during 2024 Labor Day Enforcement Period

SUMMARY: During the 2024 Labor Day holiday travel period, the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) responded to seven fatal crashes, resulting in 15 deaths. The crashes occurred in several counties, including Grenada and Warren. From August 30 to September 2, MHP issued 7,123 citations, made 122 arrests for impaired driving, and cited 740 drivers for not using occupant restraints. Overall, there were 155 crashes leading to 81 injuries and 15 fatalities. Compared to the previous year, the 2024 totals showed a significant increase in fatalities and injuries, highlighting a concerning trend in holiday travel safety.
