MHP reports 15 deaths, 155 crashes over Labor Day weekend
SUMMARY: During the Labor Day travel period in Mississippi, which ran from Friday morning to Monday midnight, the Highway Patrol reported 7,123 citations, 122 impaired driving arrests, and 740 occupant restraint violations. Despite fewer total citations than last year, fatalities surged to 15, with 155 crashes resulting in 81 injuries. Major incidents included a fatal bus crash in Warren County killing seven, multiple fatalities in Grenada, Wilkinson, Prentiss, and Issaquena Counties, and the involvement of young victims. All incidents are under investigation as officials assess the significant increase in fatalities.
