MHP holiday enforcement period starts Wednesday

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Highway Patrol is increasing enforcement during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, which runs from today through Sunday. Last year, there were 212 crashes, resulting in six deaths and 43 injuries during this time period. Thanksgiving is estimated to be the busiest travel season of the year, with 55 million Americans hitting the roads. Law enforcement will be strictly enforcing traffic laws and looking out for intoxicated, impaired, and distracted drivers, as well as aggressive drivers. The Highway Patrol urges travelers to drive early in the morning or after sunset to avoid heavy traffic. If stranded, they can call Star HP for assistance.
