Menge Avenue overpass now open
SUMMARY: The new M Avenue overpass at I-10 in South Mississippi has officially opened, concluding a 15-month construction project. This endeavor included the demolition of the old bridge, along with widening the entrance and exit ramps and Fire Tower Road, funded by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors. Although traffic is expected to improve, local businesses like G Coast Truck and Trailer Repair report a 30-40% revenue loss due to construction. While the overpass is complete, further construction beyond the bridge is ongoing, with a projected completion date of spring 2025.

City of Ocean Springs holds community meeting addressing zoning of newly-annexed areas
SUMMARY: Ocean Springs officials held their first public forum to discuss zoning for newly annexed areas, aiming to reflect residents’ needs without disrupting property use. However, many residents found the provided materials—charts, maps, and PowerPoint slides—overwhelming and confusing. Some attendees expressed frustration, feeling their questions remained unanswered, particularly regarding wetland filling and agricultural designation concerns. There are hopes that these meetings will lead to genuine representation of citizen interests, rather than being mere formalities. A second forum is scheduled for December 9th at the Ocean Springs Civic Center to continue addressing community concerns about the annexation.
After annexing more land for the city, new zoning has to be done in Ocean Springs.
