SUMMARY: Recently, parts of the state have been experiencing severe drought and wildfires. Despite some recent rain, it hasn’t been enough to offset the growing threat. The dry conditions have caused fires to spread quickly, prompting state firefighters and forestry officials to call for more help. Additional resources from South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama have been brought in to fight the out of control wildfires. Over 760 wildfires have occurred since August, resulting in the loss of over 14,000 acres of forest land. These fires are even burning underground, making extinguishing them more difficult. Many counties are currently under a burn ban, and more firefighters will continue to arrive to battle the ongoing wildfires and drought conditions.
