Meteorologist Trey Tonnessen: “Overnight Severe Risk” 9PM Forecast

SUMMARY: On Monday night, central Mississippi is experiencing storms moving eastward, potentially reducing the severe risk and tornado watch in some areas. A line of storms extends across Mississippi into Louisiana with severe thunderstorm warnings in place, as visualized on the weather map. The conditions are windy but calmer during the broadcast. Rain has intensified on the Gulf Coast, leading to widespread downpours. Central Mississippi dealt with hectic weather, including multiple tornado warnings. A tornado watch persists until 1:00 a.m. due to trailing storms from the Gulf heading northeast. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible as a warm front moves north and a cold front approaches, expected to clear by mid-morning with temperatures on the Gulf Coast remaining in the lower 70s tonight. The area is under a level three risk for severe weather. Looking towards Thanksgiving, there is a 20-30% chance of rain, less intense than the current conditions.

November 20th, 2023: Monday afternoon and evening saw 24 tornado warnings issued (as of the most recent expiration). Many in the southern United States have been asking “It is late November, now two days before days until thanksgiving, what the heck is happening?”
