Meridian's Candy Cane Christmas Parade

SUMMARY: The communities that were served this year still have plenty of opportunities to see the symphony throughout the coming year. The City of Meridian held their annual Christmas parade to kickstart the holiday season, with many local businesses, high schools, and community members participating. Local businesses also had the opportunity to compete in the annual float competition, spreading holiday cheer. The Hayes family, along with many others, look forward to the parade every year. Children like Easton, who enjoyed lots of candy, were very excited about the parade. Overall, the community enjoyed the parade and the holiday season festivities.

Mississippi bill would end DEI ideology in state’s higher education | Mississippi

SUMMARY: Mississippi state Sen. Angela Burks Hill has proposed Senate Bill 2223, aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the state’s higher education system. The bill would prohibit public institutions from using funds to support DEI offices or personnel and ban diversity training and preferential treatment based on race, sex, or ethnicity. Additionally, schools must report compliance and reallocate funds previously designated for DEI towards merit scholarships and tuition. The bill is under consideration by the Mississippi Senate Universities and Colleges Committee. Another bill, 2515, is also being reviewed, focusing on the efficiency of the public university system.
