Meggan Monday: Local Man Hikes Entire Appalachian Trail
SUMMARY: This week’s “Megan Monday” features 20-year-old Gavin Harwell, who recently completed the entire Appalachian Trail, spanning 2,190 miles from Georgia to Maine in 204 days. Gavin reflects on stunning moments such as Franconia Ridge in New Hampshire, a challenging yet rewarding climb. Initially a couch potato, he trained through Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) to achieve this milestone, encountering only chipmunks and squirrels throughout his journey. Despite the trail’s challenges, he gained confidence and 10 pounds, emphasizing the mental rewards. Only 20% of registered hikers finish the trail, making Gavin and his partner Kellen’s success even more remarkable.
SUMMARY: Gulfport is preparing for Spring Break, with the Police Department announcing a traffic plan. Highway 90 will have one lane open for east and west traffic, with the other lane reserved for first responders. Traffic will be diverted north on Cowan Road to I-10, while southbound traffic will be redirected west on Seaway Road. Businesses like Shaggies expect a busy weekend but are not offering specials. SUMMARY: The Taste of the Bay event, hosted by the Diagonville-St. Martin Chamber of Commerce, will take place on April 12 at the Diabraville Community Center from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. For just $10, adults can sample dishes from over 10 local vendors, including Flatheads, Patio 44, and New Orleans Café. Children 12 and under are free. There will be live entertainment from Evan Black and Michael Hlette, plus a chance for kids to take photos with the Easter Bunny, sponsored by local businesses.
