Truth about speed limits: The top speeding ticket hot spots in Houston
SUMMARY: K1 investigated Houston’s speeding ticket hot spots by analyzing nearly 35,000 tickets. The top locations include 10,600 Kempwood Drive with 912 tickets, 1200 South Kirkwood Drive (791 tickets), and 100 Parker Road (574 tickets). The data shows that police enforce speeding laws in areas with high accident rates and citizen complaints, dispelling myths that ticketing is revenue-driven. Texas woman applies to change last name on passport, receives unasked for sex marker change
SUMMARY: An Austin woman, Alexis Pratchett, who is transgender, faced an unexpected issue when updating her passport to reflect her new last name. After delays in her application, she received a passport with her former gender marker. Pratchett had previously corrected her gender on official documents and provided a court order for her name change, which did not include a gender marker change. She expressed concern over the potential risk and confusion this discrepancy could cause, especially during international travel. Lambda Legal recommends transgender individuals avoid changing passports for now, amid ongoing legal challenges to the Trump administration’s policies.

What steps are Houston lawmakers working to address the growing homelessness problem?
SUMMARY: Houston city leaders are focusing on homelessness, with around 3,000 people potentially sleeping on the streets across Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties. The City Council will vote on nearly $2.6 million in grants aimed at addressing this issue, part of Mayor Whitmire’s initiative to combat homelessness. Proposed measures include preventing families experiencing domestic violence from becoming homeless and establishing an “End Street Homelessness Fund.” Notably, nearly half of those in a local homeless facility are children. Organizations like the Salvation Army and Star of Hope play key roles in providing necessary services and support to vulnerable populations.

Houston City Council will vote on eight separate measures involving homelessness. KPRC 2’s Rilwan Balogun breaks it all down for us.
