MDWFP hands out over 400 citations over holiday weekend
SUMMARY: Over Memorial Day, over 6,800 Mississippi boaters were checked by Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks officers. Officers issued 416 citations for infractions involving personal flotation devices, boat registration, and reckless operation. Seven individuals were arrested for boating under the influence. As summer approaches, conservation officers remind boaters to ensure each person on board has a correctly sized, readily accessible USCG-approved life jacket in good condition. SUMMARY: On October 5, a two-vehicle crash in Jones County, Mississippi, resulted in three injuries. The accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. near the 3700 block of Sharon Road, involving a Chevrolet sedan and a Toyota sedan. Firefighters found the Chevy blocking the road and had to use hydraulic equipment to free its driver, who sustained serious injuries; two others had minor to moderate injuries. Witnesses reported that one vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic, leading to an offset head-on collision. Authorities from the Jones County sheriff’s office and Mississippi Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
