MDOT warns commuters of upcoming I-55 lane closures over the Pearl River
SUMMARY: Starting the evening of October 15, both directions of I-55 will close two lanes to repair the Pearl River bridges in Jackson, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). This hydro-demolition project is essential for extending the bridges’ lifespan, affecting over 113,000 daily commuters. MDOT advises drivers to seek alternate routes, such as I-220 and Highways 465, 468, and 25, to avoid delays. Local business owner Christopher Lee expressed concern over increased traffic congestion due to the closures, which could lead to an hour-long delay for regular travelers. The project is expected to conclude by the end of the year.

Northern Lights seen over Mississippi
SUMMARY: Recently, central Mississippi experienced a rare display of the Northern Lights, visible further south than usual due to a strong geomagnetic storm, the most intense in over two decades. The vibrant colors resulted from solar energy impacting Earth’s magnetic field, creating beautiful visuals in the sky. This phenomenon can disrupt power and radio signals. Many enjoyed the view under clear skies and cool temperatures from 10 PM last night until early this morning. This event, occurring twice in six months, was also seen in locations like Connecticut and New Jersey, making it a memorable experience for observers.
