McDonald’s says onions from California grower linked to deadly E. coli outbreak
SUMMARY: A deadly E. coli outbreak linked to fresh onions from California’s Taylor Farms has sickened at least 49 individuals, including one fatality, primarily affecting McDonald’s restaurants. The outbreak prompted McDonald’s to pull Quarter Pounder hamburgers from several locations and led other fast-food chains like Taco Bell and KFC to remove onions from their menus. While Taylor Farms recalled potentially contaminated onions sourced from a Colorado facility, U.S. Foods clarified these onions weren’t supplied to McDonald’s. Symptoms of E. coli can quickly manifest, especially dangerous for vulnerable populations, according to health officials.
