Ex-boyfriend of slain Southern Miss nursing student indicted for murder
SUMMARY: Bricen Rivers has been indicted for capital murder, vehicle theft, and tampering with evidence in the death of his ex-girlfriend, former Southern Miss nursing student Lauren Johansen. Her body was discovered in a vehicle trunk at Wolf River Cemetery on July 3, 2024. Following a manhunt, Rivers was captured after fleeing the scene. Although Johansen’s body was found in Harrison County, the murder likely occurred in Forrest County. A clerical error in Tennessee allowed Rivers to escape before being tracked. Rivers remains in custody, with prior bond denials for other charges, including drug trafficking and kidnapping.

Southern Miss blanks No. 18 Mississippi State 3-0
