Jackson Democratic mayoral primary heads to runoff
SUMMARY: In Jackson’s Democratic mayoral primary, Senator John Horn nearly avoided a runoff despite low voter turnout. Horn will face incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a runoff on April 22nd, after securing over 7,000 more votes than Lumumba. Many voters, including some who typically lean Republican, supported Horn for his hard campaigning and ability to get things done. However, Horn’s vote share fell short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff. The winner of the runoff will advance to the June 3rd general election. Voters are seeking a mayor who is transparent and effective in managing city resources.

Wellness Wednesday: Link between tech and health
SUMMARY: In a recent “Wellness Wednesday” segment, Dr. Quinn discusses the impact of technology on health. He highlights both benefits, such as increased access to health information, and drawbacks, including reduced physical activity and disrupted sleep patterns due to screen exposure. Dr. Quinn observes that technology often distracts users, leading to time loss and decreased engagement in daily activities. He suggests a technology detox, advocating for 24-hour breaks from social media to foster mental well-being. Additionally, he notes that prolonged screen time can cause eye strain and reduce active learning opportunities, particularly among students using AI for schoolwork.
