MBI investigates death of Leake County inmate

SUMMARY: The Mississippi of Investigation (MBI) is probing the of 45-year-old Rodney Cooks, who died at Leake County Correctional Facility. Cooks was on Highway 488 for careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to Sheriff Randy Atkinson, Cooks had a bag of suspected in his mouth and refused to spit it out during a search. He later became unresponsive in a holding cell and could not be revived. The Mississippi Lab is testing the suspected drugs to determine Cooks’ cause of death.
