Mayor's Hike, Bike and Paddle

SUMMARY: Today, the community is invited to the Mayor’s Hike, Bike and Paddle event, starting at 8:00 AM on the Great Lawn with music and free fitness classes. At 10:00 AM, participants can join a four-mile walk along the Ohio River. The biking route spans over eight miles through Nulu and Cherokee Park. Paddlers can launch from the Harbor Lawn near the U of L boat docks and travel downriver to Shawnee Park boat ramp. Free kayaks are available on a limited basis, along with free t-shirts for participants.

Dry and turning warmer through the weekend

SUMMARY: On Friday, the weather started off beautiful but was preceded by heavy rain, with up to 2-3 inches in some southern areas. Now, conditions are dry in the metro with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-50s. A cool front will bring patchy drizzle tonight, but it will be dry tomorrow morning, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Sunday will see a warm-up to the low 60s for Groundhog Day, followed by temperatures in the upper 60s on Wednesday. The next rain will arrive Thursday, but winter cold is expected to return soon after.

WKU Mourns Loss Of Cross Country/Track & Field Head Coach Brent Chumbley

SUMMARY: Brent Chumbley, the 55-year-old Director of Cross Country/Track & Field at Western Kentucky University, passed away unexpectedly. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Alex, a WKU freshman. Chumbley dedicated six years to WKU, coaching numerous NCAA qualifiers and All-American athletes, notably Katie Isenbarger. He previously spent 13 years at Radford University and also coached at Illinois State and Murray State. A University of Kentucky graduate, Chumbley was an accomplished hammer thrower and a former U.S. Army combat engineer. Interim Head Coach Lee Wood will lead the program for the remainder of the season.
