Mayor speaks out on Jtran Issues
SUMMARY: Tension remains between JTRAN workers and MV Transportation, the company managing them, as they face unresolved issues months after an April sick-out that disrupted public transport. Union grievances include punitive actions for sickness, lack of uniform allowances, and pay concerns. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba addressed these issues on his YouTube show, stating he has met with both sides and believes they are not far apart on resolving their differences. However, Union President Charles Tornes claims little progress has been made, emphasizing that empty promises persist, and another strike notice was issued, prompting MV Transportation to respond.

First day of testimony in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: The prosecution began the trial with three witnesses, starting with the 911 call made by Heath Smiley, Karlie Gregg’s stepfather, who reported that Gregg had shot her mother. The jury heard the call, during which Smiley was hysterical. The second witness, Rankin County Deputy Hunter Lewis, shared bodycam footage showing Smiley’s devastation upon finding his wife, Ashley, dead in their bedroom. The prosecution also called a minor friend of Gregg, who expressed concerns about her drug use and warned her mother but advised against confrontation to protect their identity. The first day concluded with plans for more witnesses and the defense’s response.
