Mayor presents State of the City
SUMMARY: Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is preparing to deliver a speech focusing on his vision for Jackson‘s future, amid his campaign for a third term. He firmly confirmed his intent to run, despite opposition from a group of business and community leaders, “Rethink Jackson,” who are interviewing potential candidates to challenge him. Lumumba’s administration boasts significant achievements, including preventing a state takeover of Jackson Public Schools, improving infrastructure, and securing $800 million in federal funds for the water system. Critics, like Johnny Byrd, rate his performance as a C-minus, indicating challenges ahead in defending his record during the campaign.
