Mayfield appointed to Mississippi Advisory Commission on Marine Resources

Gov. Tate Reeves has appointed Matthew Mayfield to the Mississippi Advisory Commission on Marine Resources (MACMR) to represent commercial fishermen. His term, effective immediately, will end on June 30, 2026, pending Senate approval. Mayfield founded Eagle Point Oyster Company in 2021 and owns Tays Barbeque restaurants. A culinary expert, he co-authored a Gulf Coast cookbook titled On the Coast. Mayfield graduated from Pascagoula High School and attended Mississippi State University and the Culinary Institute of America. He resides in Ocean Springs with his family. The MACMR consists of five gubernatorially appointed members from various related sectors.

State Excellence Fund gifted $1.5 million as revenue sharing decision nears
SUMMARY:
Just under two weeks after Mississippi State’s Athletics Department received a multi-million dollar gift from an MLB agent and his spouse, another large sum of money is announced to be making its way to Starkville.
Bulldog Athletics Director Zac Selmon announced that a family of longtime program supporters and Starkville residents are gifting $1.5 million to the State Excellence Fund.
The gift will create a lasting impact on sports programs and provide vital resources for student-athletes, according to Selmon.
The State Excellence Fund aids in elevating sports at Mississippi State and supports the department’s future growth, especially in light of upcoming challenges like the House v. NCAA settlement.
This follows prior large gifts of $8 million, $3 million, and $1.75 million from anonymous givers in recent months.

Mississippi State’s Hines, Ole Miss’ Elliot tabbed preseason All-SEC
