SUMMARY: Mississippi’s infant mortality rate has reached a five-year high, with at least 330 babies dying before their first birthday in 2020-2021. At the statewide maternal health symposium, health professionals addressed issues such as postpartum depression and cardiac problems that contribute to high mortality rates. The goal is to develop 8 to 10 actionable items that can be implemented throughout the state to improve maternal and infant health. Once developed, these items will be published on the State Department of Health website for the entire state to utilize. Organizations are working together to bring about positive changes for mothers and babies in Mississippi.
