'Mastermind' behind Du'Vonta Lampkin's murder found guilty, gets life in prison
SUMMARY: Antoine Franklin, convicted of masterminding the 2022 murder of former NFL player Devonte Lampkin, was sentenced to life in prison. During the trial, Lampkin’s mother delivered an emotional victim impact statement, emphasizing the devastation caused to both their families. The jury deliberated for two and a half hours before reaching a unanimous guilty verdict. Prosecutors presented evidence, including Instagram messages and surveillance footage, indicating Franklin’s involvement in orchestrating a robbery that led to Lampkin’s death in Dallas. A co-defendant, Eric Garcia, is set for trial later this year, while another co-defendant was found not guilty.
Antwan Franklin was the “mastermind” behind a plan to rob and kill Du’Vonta Lampkin in his Downtown Dallas Airbnb in May 2022. He received an automatic life sentence.
