Marion County School District reshaping, expanding a bit for 2024-25 school year

SUMMARY: The Marian County School District is implementing a new middle school format for the upcoming school year. Previously, grades 7 through 12 were combined at both East and West Marian. This year, East Marian will have grades 6-8 in a junior high, while West Marian will host grades 5-8 in the former West Marian Elementary, redesignated as a middle school. High schools will now contain only grades 9-12. The shift was due to the 7th and 8th grades receiving less attention as staff focused on upperclassmen. A focus group tried this unofficially last year, addressing academic and social-emotional needs, leading to this official change. The fourth grade from West Marian Elementary will move to West Marian Primary School.
