Marine Patrol joins Operation Dry Water to increase awareness of the dangers associated with boating under the influence
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will participate in the annual Operation Dry Water campaign with the aim of reducing nationwide alcohol- and drug-related incidents on water. Operation Dry Water weekend, which takes place from July 1-3, is nationally dedicated to conducting outreach, education and enforcement about boating under the influence. Recreational boating safety advocates and law enforcement will collaborate to educate boaters and identify and remove impaired operators. The campaign is coordinated nationally by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard.

SUMMARY: Mary Evelyn Jakubik, a junior at St. Patrick, helped her tennis team win their first-ever State Championship on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After rediscovering her passion for tennis during the COVID years, Jakubik’s dedication paid off as she was selected for the prestigious Ozaki Cup and won numerous tournaments, including a mixed doubles State title as a freshman. The day after the team victory, she clinched the girls’ singles State Championship by overcoming a tough first set. Jakubik, a three-time State Champion, is now aiming to win a girls doubles title with her sister, Campbell, next year.
