March On, Mississippi Students! | Our Mississippi Home
SUMMARY: On October 12, high school marching bands in Mississippi competed at the MHSAA and MBA Regional State Marching Evaluation across five locations. Bands were judged in areas such as drum major, color guard, and percussion, using a three-level rating scale. To qualify for the 2024 Marching Championships, bands needed an overall superior score, requiring at least two judges to rate them as superior. In the Region 1 competition at Tupelo, 33 bands performed, with 25 receiving superior ratings. Separate championship events for various classifications will be held throughout late October and November. Community support and unity among bands were emphasized.

Green Christmas Gifts for Critters and Yourself
SUMMARY: Feeding wildlife can be enjoyable, but it’s important to remember that many animals can find their own food and may become dependent on human assistance. Instead of feeding them directly, consider planting native plants that provide natural food sources like fruits, seeds, and insects. Examples include Wax Myrtle, Yaupon Holly, and American Beautyberry. For nectar-feeding birds, try Coral Honeysuckle or Red Buckeye. Creating a no-mow zone, brush piles, and other habitats can also provide shelter and food. While occasional feeding is fine, avoid processed foods, and opt for natural options like nuts for squirrels and fruits for turtles.
