Man threatening people on social media gets 41-month term

SUMMARY: Christian Bunyard, a man from Lauderdale County, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for making threats against African American people in Oxford over social media. He used Snapchat to threaten a school shooting, to kill and rape African American individuals, and to extort nude photos from another Snapchat user. Bunyard pleaded guilty to making threats in interstate commerce and extortionate communication in April 2021. The threats occurred in May and July 2020. This incident highlights the serious consequences of using social media to spread hate and make harmful threats against others.
