Major road work ahead for City of Laurel
SUMMARY: The city of Laurel is preparing for major road work after receiving the largest grant in the city’s history. City workers will use nearly twenty-five million dollars to repair sewage and water lines and fix drainage issues in frequently flooded areas. Mayor Johnny Magee says the project will span about two miles and will help solve part of the city’s ongoing traffic issues. This is a significant project that has been needed for a long time and will improve the infrastructure and quality of life in Laurel.

Rankin County forest fire now contained
SUMMARY: A forest fire in Rankin County, sparked by a resident’s controlled burn, has been contained but not fully extinguished. The fire, affecting over 300 acres, began around 11 a.m. and prompted evacuations of nearby homes as it spread eastward toward Scott County. Approximately 15 volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, utilizing various firefighting equipment to contain it. Although no structures were damaged, the situation remained serious, with smoke visible in the area. Residents are urged to stay informed as crews continue their efforts to fully extinguish the fire.
