Major bridge projects potentially pushed back two years | Louisiana
SUMMARY: A last-minute tax reform in House Bill 10 redirects $280 million from vehicle sales taxes to Louisiana’s general fund, delaying crucial infrastructure projects, including the Interstate 49 expansion and a new bridge over the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. This shift, aimed at addressing revenue shortfalls from income tax cuts, suspends investments in the Transportation Trust Fund’s Construction sub-fund for two years. Although Governor Jeff Landry assured continued funding for these projects, transportation officials express concern about potential delays. The Mississippi River bridge project could now face at least a two-year setback, complicating urgent infrastructure needs in the region.
