Magnolia Cemetery Improvement Project has fundraiser underway through Community Foundation
SUMMARY: We’re excited to welcome everyone back and to introduce our special guest, Tracy Jones. Tracy is leading the Magnolia Cemetery Improvement Project as the chairperson, a former WTO general manager, and a past colleague of ours. We’re diving into the project details, which aim to restore and repave the historic cemetery’s roads, desperately in need of repair. The community foundation is managing a fund to ensure all money goes to the project. An ambitious $600,000 fundraising goal has been set, with brick selling for $300 each to support the cause. More information and contribution options are available on the project’s website, magnoliameridian.com. Tracy highlights the cemetery’s significance, including the burial of notable individuals like Congressman Sonny Montgomery and singer-songwriter Paul Davis, as well as the family graves of many local residents. The campaign kickoff begins today, with hopes that the community will generously support the cause and preserve the cemetery’s historical value.
Magnolia Cemetery is 125 years old and is showing its age. Located on 23rd Avenue, it was once a picturesque spot. Visit magnoliameridian.com for details.
