HCSO: Investigators identify dead newborn found on I-10 in 1993
SUMMARY: New developments have emerged in a nearly 30-year-old cold case involving the identification of a newborn found dead in Gulfport in 1993. The baby, originally known as Mary Josephine, was deemed a homicide victim and buried at Floral Hills Memorial Garden. Last year, authorities exhumed her body for DNA analysis, leading to the identification of her relatives. Investigators subsequently sought a DNA comparison with a woman believed to be Mary’s mother, but upon executing a warrant at her home, they discovered she had died by suicide, leaving a letter claiming her connection to Mary.
On December 21, 1993, a newborn baby was found dead on I-10 near the Lorraine Road exit in Gulfport.

Repair construction on Beachview Bridge leaves negative impact on local businesses
SUMMARY: Repairs have commenced on the Beach View Drive bridge in Gulf Park Estates, negatively impacting nearby businesses like Funky Monkey and The Bayou due to decreased traffic. Owners report significant declines in sales, with one day seeing only $48 in revenue. While they appreciate the support from construction workers dining at their establishments, the closure is forcing staff reductions and halting entertainment options. Hesitant about the timing during peak fishing season, they express concerns about the lack of notice regarding the closure. District supervisor Randy Bosard states that funding for the bridge repairs comes from tax dollars allocated for such work.
While improvements are necessary for both efficiency and safety, owners in the area say the closure is causing a heavy decline in their businesses.

Secretary of State files lawsuit against Tullis Gardens as developer seeks casino site approval
SUMMARY: Today, Tulis Gardens developers will seek approval from the gaming commission for a new casino in Buxy. However, a lawsuit challenges their legal access to the waterfront, which is essential for casino projects. Secretary of State Michael Watson filed the suit, asserting that a tidelands lease is required. Tulis Gardens has an option to purchase city land west of Oak Street, previously home to Tulis Manor before Hurricane Katrina. They also have a lease to build a pier along the beach, but Watson’s lawsuit claims this is an attempt to circumvent tidelands law. Updates will follow on the situation.
The lawsuit was filed in Harrison County Chancery Court one day before Tullis Gardens is set to appear before the state gaming commission for site approval.
