Louisville pediatrician convicted in murder-for-hire plot sentenced to 12 years in prison
SUMMARY: Stephanie Russell, a pediatrician, was charged with murder-for-hire after allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband, a plot revealed when she left $3,500 in a dropbox for an undercover FBI agent masquerading as the assassin. Despite signing a plea deal for 10 to 12 years in prison, new evidence shows Russell approached three inmates about the hit just before and after accepting the deal. Her ex-husband urged for the maximum sentence in court, recounting years of harassment, while the judge noted he could not impose a harsher sentence due to the pre-existing agreement.

Indiana's 9th Congressional candidates discuss their top priorities
SUMMARY: In the Ninth Congressional District, Congresswoman Erin Houchin, a Republican, has previously won elections comfortably but faces a challenge from moderate Democrat Tim Peck, an emergency physician focusing on healthcare reform and bipartisan initiatives like telemedicine. Peck emphasizes the importance of abortion rights based on his medical experience, asserting government shouldn’t interfere in healthcare decisions. Houchin, staunchly anti-abortion, prioritizes economic issues, border security, and energy independence. She aims to reverse President Biden‘s policies on natural gas and promote the Secure the Border Act. Libertarian candidate Russell Brooksbank is also in the race but has historically had little impact.
