Louisville first responders honored at annual Blue Mass
SUMMARY: The annual Blue Mass, held at the Cathedral of the Assumption, honors current and former first responders, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Four days before the anniversary of September 11th, over 100 names of fallen heroes from Jefferson County, dating back to the 1800s, were read aloud. This event recognizes the dangers first responders face and emphasizes the community’s support for them. The tradition, rooted in remembrance and respect, dates back to 1934 and celebrates the lives and service of those in emergency services, including firefighters from the historical Louisville Volunteer Fire Department.
