Louisiana tax reforms need only Landry’s signature to become law | Louisiana
SUMMARY: Louisiana lawmakers have approved comprehensive tax reforms, including a flat 3% income tax for residents earning over $12,500 and a sales tax increase from 4.45% to 5% starting January 2025. Governor Jeff Landry supports the changes, which could reduce state revenue by $1.3 billion annually. To offset the shortfall, $280 million will be redirected from vehicle sales taxes, delaying infrastructure projects. Notably, the corporate income tax will decrease from 7.5% to 5.5%, and the franchise tax will be eliminated. Critics argue the reforms benefit wealthier individuals and corporations, while supporters claim they will enhance economic growth and job creation.
