Louisiana superintendents talk computer science standards, high dosage tutoring | Louisiana
SUMMARY: During the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Superintendent Advisory Council meeting, officials discussed new computer science standards and tutoring initiatives. The Louisiana Department of Education presented a plan aimed at enhancing student digital literacy, aligned with Act 211, set for implementation by the 2025-2026 school year. The standards target different grade levels with core concepts in computing. Additionally, Act 771 requires expanded academic support for students in grades K-5 who struggle with reading or math. The department has been approving plans from superintendents to meet this act. Changes to field testing requirements and provisions for dyslexia testing were also discussed.

NBC 10 News Today: Louisiana the first state to categorize two abortion drugs as controlled dangerou
SUMMARY: Louisiana will be the first state to classify two widely used abortion drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, as controlled dangerous substances. While these drugs are commonly referred to as abortion pills, they also serve medical purposes such as treating miscarriages and postpartum hemorrhaging. Doctors are concerned that this reclassification may hinder access to these medications in a state with a high maternal mortality rate and a near-total abortion ban. Proponents of the bill argue that it serves as a preventative measure against coerced abortions.

Tracking possible Gulf development
SUMMARY: Forecasts indicate the potential development of a Gulf storm, with a 40% chance over the next week. While another system, possibly named Leslie or Kirk, is expected to form in the Atlantic, the focus remains on a system developing in the Western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Conditions appear favorable for storm growth due to high humidity and warm water; however, strong wind shear may hinder significant organization. Increased rain chances are anticipated by Thursday and Friday, particularly in Florida and Southeast Louisiana, with predictions suggesting it may be a weak system, likely a tropical depression rather than a hurricane.
Meteorologist Devon Lucie starts us off with a focused look at the tropics where several storms are moving through the Atlantic, then returns to the Gulf of Mexico walking us through the latest data and what information we can make of it right now with regards to the timing, strength of storm, and how it affects our rain chances.

Monday 10PM Tropical Update: Development possible in Gulf of Mexico late this week
SUMMARY: Tennessee’s mayor describes an extremely dangerous situation following Hurricane Helen, as dramatic videos showcase the aftermath. While those near the landfall are cleaning up, floodwaters have affected areas further north. In the Caribbean and Gulf, meteorologists report no immediate threats, with a region highlighted for possible future development of storms. Currently, there’s a loose organization of thunderstorms north of Panama. Models show varied predictions, with some suggesting potential organization in the Caribbean that could move into the Gulf, but none are aggressively forecasting development, mainly indicating a rain event in the coming days.
