Longtime member of Mississippi law enforcement community dies
SUMMARY: Lt. William Christopher “Chris” Picou of the Madison Police Department passed away on November 10, 2024, from an injury sustained at his hunting camp. He had a long-standing career in law enforcement, having served in multiple agencies in the Jackson metro area, including as Undersheriff at the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office from 2012 to 2016. Madison police expressed condolences, highlighting Picou’s dedication and impact on the community. His funeral will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the service, before burial at Monterey Baptist Church Cemetery in Louisiana.

Woman wanted for murder in Virginia captured in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Akea Faison, 33, was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, on November 12 after being on the run for 20 months. She was wanted for two counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, and several firearm-related charges, stemming from a robbery in Portsmouth, Virginia, on March 5, 2023, where two men were killed. U.S. Marshals tracked her to a business in Jackson, where she was apprehended without incident. Faison is currently held at Madison County Detention Center and will face extradition to Virginia for her initial court appearance.

Brandon leaders break ground on The Heights
SUMMARY: The City of Brandon held a groundbreaking ceremony for The Heights at Brandon, a new mixed-use development. The project will feature 96 luxury residential lofts, an 82-room boutique hotel, a restaurant, 18,000 square feet of retail space, and another upscale restaurant. It will be located west of the Municipal Complex. The development aims to offer a combination of residential, retail, dining, and outdoor activities for the city and Rankin County. The Thrash Group is developing the project with Dale Partners Architects, and construction costs are estimated at $55 million. The city is excited about the new opportunities it will bring.
